Budget allocated for a cancer hospital in L. Gan

L. Gan Regional Hospital.

Budget has been allocated to build a new hospital in L. Gan, which specializes in cancer treatment.

The government presented a proposed state budget of MVR 34.79 billion for 2021 to the Parliament on Monday. The budget includes an allocation of MVR 4.04 billion for health sector.

Projects planned for health sector development includes building a cancer hospital in L. Gan, which has been allocated a budget of MVR 5.5 million.

The government estimates the cancer hospital will cost total MVR 98 million. While MVR 5.5 million has been allocated in the 2021 budget for the hospital, the government plans on allocating an additional MVR 27 million for the hospital in the 2022 budget.

The government has also allocated MVR 191 million to develop tertiary hospitals in five regions, and MVR 34 million for the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital Project in Addu City.

The government has allocated MVR 200 million for COVID-19 response, as well as MVR 1.9 billion for operational cost for health sector workers and MVR 1.4 billion for other recurrent expenditure in health sector.
