Man arrested for sexual abuse of 13-year old girl

A man has been arrested for the sexual abuse of an underage girl in the central Maldives. 

The man was arrested last night under a court order by police. The case was reported on October 23, 2020.

Police officials said that the arrested individual is a 49-year old local male who was in a position of trust with the victim. The man is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year old girl.

The incident happened on an island in the central police division which includes Dh. Atoll, M. Atoll, and F. Atoll. 

Police are now investigating the case. Due to the nature of the case invo9lving a child, police did not disclose the exact atoll and island where the incident happened in order to protect the victim.
