Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has stated that the positive COVID-19 cases identified from the Kandima Maldives resort in Dh. Atoll are all employees of the resort.
The resort was placed under monitoring after 17 out of 20 random samples collected from the island tested positive for COVID-19.
A senior official of HEOC said that the 17 were all staff of the resort.
"No tourists were among those who tested positive. Only staffers and contract workers tested positive for the virus.” Said the official. Tourists on the resort will be permitted to depart if they are not contacts of the positive cases and upon testing negative for the virus.
A 60-year old local from the resort passed away while receiving treatment at the Dh. Atoll Hospital last Friday. The individual later tested positive for COVID-19.
HPA commenced sample collection from the island after the case.
Currently, there are active cases in 27 resorts of the Maldives, including 35 tourists and 81 staff.
As of last night, the Maldives has confirmed a total of 11,659 COVID-19 cases since the first case back in March.
