PPM: MP Shiyam negative for COVID-19, condition improving

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) announced on Wednesday that its deputy leader, Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam has tested negative for COVID-19, and that his condition is improving.

Shiyam was taken to the ADK Hospital in Male’ following a sudden deterioration in his health while attending a parliamentary sitting on Tuesday morning.

The opposition parliamentarian has been hospitalized for tests and closer observation.

PPM announced in a statement on Wednesday morning that Shiyam was tested for COVID-19 upon hospitalization, and that the results came back negative.

The party said Shiyam’s condition is improving.

While PPM has not disclosed the exact nature of his illness, the party stated that Shiyam has been suffering from various health complications since his following a spinal injury he sustained during a scuffle within the Parliament back in June.
