Flyme launches international operations

Flyme, the airline operated by Villa Air, has launched international commercial operations.

Flyme operated its first international commercial flight on Friday, a flight to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.

In a statement on Friday, Villa Air said that the flight VP8910 which flew from Velana International Airport in Male’ to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo was a charter operated by an all-local crew using the company’s brand new 72-seater ATR 72-600 aircraft.

The company had initiated work to launch international operations last year, and received certification to operate international flights on Thursday.

Villa Air said it plans on starting scheduled operations between Velana International Airport and Ratmalana Airport as soon as Sri Lanka’s borders reopen, and has also announce plans to launch scheduled operation to India.

Villa Air said it expects the international operations to contribute to a faster recovery of the Maldivian economy.
