Strong winds that hit the island of Naifaru in Lhaviyani atoll last night blew off the roof of the island council.
The incident damaged equipment and documents in the council and left the office flooded with rain. Vice president of Naifaru council Mohamed Shahid Abdulla stated to the “Sun” that the incident happened around 2:00 last night.
“Strong winds blew off the roof. The pouring rain then caused the ceiling to fall. Even now there is water dripping.” said Shahid.
Work is now underway to move the council work elsewhere according to Shahid. Male’ city is also experiencing heavy rains with some areas of the city facing flooding.
