Applications opened for Broadcom vacancy

The vacant seat for the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has been opened for application once again.

The seat on the Broadcom was left vacant after the Vice President of the Commission Fathimath Zaina was removed from her post by the Parliament. This is the second time that applications have been opened for the seat.

The applicants for the seat did not get the approval from the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions. The deadline for applications will lapse on 14:00 Monday.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and must not be convicted of any criminal offenses in the last five years. He or she must also not be in an elected position of power.

The applicants must also not be an employee of the civil service or a government share owned company in addition to being free of any financial interests of the broadcasting sector.

A total of four seats were left vacant on the Broadcom. Members were appointed to three of the four seats. They are former PSM board member and Presenter Mariyam Waheeda, former news head of Raajje TV Ali Yoosuf and MDP activist Ahmed Gais.

Mariyam Waheeda was later appointed as the president of the commission, while Gais was appointed as the vice president.

In addition to the three members above, the commission consists of Ahmed Amjad, Zeena Zahir, and Aiminath Sahaarath Izzath.
