South Galolhu MP Mickail Naseem has criticized the government for its lack of speed in delivering justice.

MP Mickail was speaking in today’s parliamentary session regarding a motion to reveal the identities of those involved in the MMPRC scandal and the unknown deaths and enforced disappearances carried out in the country when he sharply criticized the government’s sluggish efforts at justice.

MP Mickail stated that the promise of justice was the reason that the current government won the election and that it was a shameful and sad fact that justice is delayed when the party that has worked to establish justice in the country for years was in power.

“Votes were not cast for this government to build roads or bridges or to gain urban development. (They were cast) for just one purpose. to attain justice.” said MP Mickail .

He also reminded that providing justice for those families that have spent years seeking and begging for it was one of the key pledges of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and stated that the most important obligation of the government should be to jail those responsible for the corruption and misappropriation of state funds.

“However, as a member of MDP, not as a parliamentarian, but as an MDP member, the main reason for my sorrow is that justice is delayed, when the party that has worked at the forefront of rectifying and improving the justice system since the beginning, our party, MDP, is in power” said MP Mickail .

The motion to reveal the identities was presented after the Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham revealed that the MMPRC corruption scandal involved Ministers, MPs and even judges among others during a parliamentary committee meeting. MP Mickail also expressed his skepticism over whether any of the figures involved would be brought to justice.

“The DDCOM has repeatedly highlighted the deaths under investigation and published a huge report with proof and evidence. Two or three months have passed since and no steps or actions have been taken for this.” said the MP as the reason for his skeptic statements.

Mickail stated that if actions were taken regarding the report, there would be a sense of security on the roads today.

“I wouldn’t have to be accompanied by an MNDF officer on road, we wouldn’t be having this feeling.” Said the MP.

MP Mickail further berated the government and stated that he was ashamed and dejected that the family of Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla had stated that they no longer believed they will receive justice for Rilwan's murder. The families that have been campaigning for justice all these years were still begging for justice on the road, according to MP Meekail.

He once again called on the government to focus on providing security and safety for Maldivians and not on building bridges and roads after passing the state budget.
