A motion has been presented in the Parliament to reveal the identities and take action against those involved in the MMPRC scandal as well as those who are implicated in the unknown and enforced disappearances and deaths carried out in the country.
The motion was presented by the governing MDP chairperson and West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef who said that the most important reason that Maldivians voted for MDP in the Presidential election of 2018 and the Parliamentary election of 2019 was to get to find out the people responsible for misappropriating state funds and those who were responsible for the deaths and enforced disappearances carried out in the country.
MP Hassan Latheef also noted that the Prosecutor General's previously made statements indicating that Ministers of the government, judges, and parliamentarians amongst others were involved in the MMPRC scandal. MP Hassan Latheef stated that it was the wish of the citizens to see these people investigated and held accountable for their actions.
"The government is urged to reveal the identities of those involved in the MMPRC scandal and those behind the unknown deaths and enforced disappearances in the country and take action against them at once." the motion by MP Hassan read.
The motion was accepted for debate by 42 members of the Parliament.
