Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Aishath Nahula is scheduled to be summoned for questioning by the Parliament regarding parking violation stickers this coming week.

The request to question Minister Nahula was filed by Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir on July 2. He wishes to question Nahula over the government’s decision to issue parking violation stickers without establishing sufficient parking spaces in the capital, Male’ City.

Parliamentary regulations require a 14-day notice period for questioning of Cabinet ministers. The reason why Nahula failed to present herself for questioning by the end of the notice period is unclear.

Speaking at a press conference this Thursday, Secretary-General of Parliament, Aminath Niusha announced that Nahula has requested her questioning session to be scheduled for the coming week.

Niusha said the minister will therefore be questioned sometime next week, but did not specify the date.

MP Jabir has also filed a request to question Home Affairs Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla over measures taken by his office to ensure the coup d’etat which saw the overthrow of ex-President Mohamed Nasheed isn’t repeated.

Speaking at this Thursday’s press conference, Niusha announced that Minister Imran was currently on Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, and that his questioning session will be scheduled upon his return.
