Five day notice to be given for parliamentary committee summons

The Parliament has decided to give a five-day notice for companies and individuals to attend parliamentary committee meetings.

According to the current regulations, parliament committees can summon people to the committees on the same day of the summons. However, at a news conference held today Secretary-General of the Parliament, Ms. Aiminath Niusha stated that the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed met with the chair members of the 17 parliamentary committees and during those meetings decided to give a five-day notice to respond to a committee summon.

The current regulations state that a period of 14 days are also given for Ministers to attend to committee meetings.

Committee meetings scheduled for this week:

August 5 (Monday) - Committee in Social Affairs meets with Youth Ministry.

August 5 (Monday) - Human Rights and Gender Committee meets with the Human Rights Commission.

August 5 (Monday) - State-Owned Enterprises Committee meets with Aasandha Company.

August 6 (Tuesday) - Committee in Social Affairs meets with NSPA.

August 6 (Tuesday) - Government Oversight Committee meets with Housing Ministry.

August 6 (Tuesday) - Judiciary Committee meets with Attorney General Office.

August 6 (Tuesday) - Environment and Climate Change Committee meets with Environment Ministry, WAMCO and EPA to find a solution to the challenges faced in waste.

August 7 (Wednesday) - Human Rights and Gender Committee meets with Gender Ministry.
