Transport Authority makes taxi app mandatory, announces fare prices

Transport Authority has made the use of a taxi app mandatory for all taxis operating in the Male' city area and announced the fare prices of taxi travel. 

In an announcement made today, the Transport Authority stated that all taxis operating and registered in the Male' city area will have to make use of the app.

Taxi applications that the Transport Authority has permitted are:

1) Avas Ride

2) Pick Me

3) AIE

These new regulations mean that after October 1, taxis can only provide services using one of these three apps.

The Transport Authority has also concluded the fare rates for taxis. Trips between Male' and Hulhule' will now cost MVR 60, while trips between Male' and Hulhumale' will cost around MVR 75. Trips inside Male' and Hulhumale' will still cost the same as MVR 25.

The new rates will be implemented on August 7, and the Transport Ministry has stated that extra charges will not apply to any luggage put in the trunk. These changes by the Ministry are in response to complaints received by the public regarding the fares of taxis and were decided after discussions held with taxi drivers and members of the public.
