Qualified sports councilors have officially begun their work on assisting in sport activities held in the islands to promote physicial fitness and wellbeing.
Appointment of sports councilors in all the islands are an electoral pledge made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment held a three-week Certificate Level 1 course in Fitness Instructor last December to train sports councilors for the islands.
The courses were conducted by Maldives National Institute of Sports.
Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof tweeted last Tuesday that sports councilors have officially begun their work.

"As many people as possible must to take part in these activities. We will try to develop the programs more in the future,” said Mahloof.
