PNC submits 4,000 membership forms to register as a political party

People’s National Congress (PNC) – spearheaded by former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom – has submitted 4,000 membership forms to Elections Commission (EC) in its bid to register as a political party.

The leadership of former ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) began its bid to form a new political party following a legal dispute over its leadership which is currently at the Supreme Court.

Former Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed reported to ‘Sun’ he, former Deputy Leader of PPM and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and former Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar went to EC to submit the membership forms this Wednesday morning.

PPM had originally won the court case against EC over its refusal to endorse the extraordinary congress held by PPM on September 27-28, 2018 during which it elected Yameen as its leader, but the court’s decision has been appealed by EC at the Supreme Court.
