Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel, the ruling PNC’s candidate for Male' City Mayor, says he is contesting the election to address the concerns of the people and continue the work carried out by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his tenure as mayor.
Jaleel’s campaign office has been designated as the same office used for President Muizzu’s presidential campaign.
Speaking about his decision to run, the former Chief of Defence Force and former Defence Minister said he entered the race after listening to the concerns raised by Male' residents during meetings held by President Muizzu.
“As I listened to these meetings, I had many emotions. As a person who worked very hard day and night in national service and made many sacrifices, one of the questions I asked myself was whether a retired person serving the people should remain in hiding,” he said.
Jaleel said he still has the courage, skills, and experience to serve the public, and that President Muizzu has created the opportunity for him to do so.
He said he has always faced challenges with honesty and courage throughout his years in national service.
“I will be ready to serve you 24 hours a day. I will spend my nights in national service to meet the needs of the people and bring a more charming, happy and pleasant new era to the city,” he said.
Jaleel added that he would serve without discrimination, describing himself as a “servant” of the people.
“We will conquer the hearts of the people of Male' City with love, compassion and kindness by providing the services that the people need most,” he said.
Jaleel’s candidacy was confirmed last month by PNC parliamentary group leader and council election campaign manager Ibrahim Falaah, who announced that Jaleel was the sole contender for the party’s mayoral primary, securing him an automatic ticket.
