Police: Leaks influenced by prominent figures implicated in Supreme Court order case

The confidential statements by key witnesses for the investigation into the Supreme Court order on February 1 were leaked by prominet figures implicated in the Supreme Court order case; and the perpetrators will be dealt with strict punishment, says Maldives Police Service.

Confidential statements by two judges, police officers and a civilian for the investigation into the Supreme Court order, and the police intelligence report for the case were leaked over the social media last Tuesday night.

The Maldives Police Service held a press conference regarding the leak at Iskandhar Koshi this Wednesday morning.

Speaking at the press conference, Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan said the police were investigation the leak as a very serious issue.

“We take note that this is a very vile and degrade act perpetrated by some influential figures who are suspects in this case,” said Shifan.

He said the leak will be investigated, and criminal charges pressed against the perpetrators.

Those implicated in the Supreme Court order case includes former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed and some parliament members.

Shifan said the police investigation into the leak has uncovered the leak was influenced by the prime suspects in the Supreme Court order case.

He said the police will not hesitate to take action in such issues.
