High Court has found the Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party, Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz guilty of obstructing a law enforcement officer and sentenced him to four months and 24 days in prison.

The High Court issued the sentence this Tuesday, overruling the Criminal Court’s acquittal.

Riyaz was charged with obstruction for refusing to provide the PIN code for his mobile phone which the police confiscated.

The Criminal Court had acquitted Riyaz of the charge, citing huge indescrepencies in the testimony of police officers who tetsified against him, which lead to failure in establishing the "intent".
