And so the Ministry is working to establish a regulation to give permits for businesses such as shops to conduct business 24-hours.

Previously, shops were permitted to be open until 11 p.m. And some shops were allowed to conduct 24-hours during the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed.

However, when Dr. Mohamed Waheed came to power after Nasheed's resignation, the businesses hours were reduced back to 11 p.m. in an effort to reduce crime.

With the change to the times where business cargo can be transported, the government has decided to allow cafés and restaurants to run until 1 a.m. and fuel stations until 12 a.m.
