TikTok users earn income via the Creator Rewards Program, which compensates them for producing original, high-quality content, as well as through virtual gifts received during live streams, which can be converted into real money. Users also earn income by selling merchandise through TikTok Shop or directly through their profiles. They can also use the platform as an affiliate marketplace, earning commission on products they promote.
While TikTok is extremely popular among Maldivians, the island’s citizens can only earn income via TikTok through gifts received during live streams.
