Male’ City (Kalaafaanu School): 7 ballot boxes for voters from the three islands residing in the capital
Balloting will take place from 8:00 to 16:00 hours, with vote counting beginning 30 minutes after polls close. Provisional results are expected by Tuesday, October 28.
This referendum follows Presidential Decree No. 27/2025, issued under Article 115 of the Constitution and the Public Referendum Act. The decree was amended on October 12 to simplify the ballot: each island will now vote on a single question, whether a separate council should be formed for their constituency.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government will remain neutral and implement the outcome as decided by the majority of voters.
