Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Daud has formally submitted a complaint to the Police Professional Standards Command, requesting an internal investigation into corruption allegations raised by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
The allegations surfaced during a committee session on Tuesday, where Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim cited audit findings from the Polco Housing Project. Nazim claimed that between 2023 and 2024, an undisclosed sum had entered Daud’s account, resulting in the creation of assets valued at MVR 14.6 million. He further stated that Daud’s name appeared in the Asset Recovery Commission’s report on the MMPRC corruption scandal.
Daud, who currently heads the Hulhumale' Police Station, denied the allegations during the committee meeting, asserting that he has never accepted money in connection with any state matter.
“I earn my living halal,” Daud said, adding that he is being framed, though he did not name those allegedly behind the smear campaign.
Speaking to Sun, Daud said the MMPRC case is being investigated extensively and that all financial records and statements from those who received funds are preserved within relevant agencies. He maintained that he had never solicited money from anyone involved in the scandal.
Daud also alleged that a senior police officer had contacted media outlets to influence coverage of the allegations.
“I serve the state, the people, and the country with sincerity,” he said.
Daud went on administrative leave on Tuesday. In his absence, ACP Ahmed Mohamed has been temporarily appointed to oversee operations at the Hulhumale' Police Station.
The Maldives Police Service has not yet issued a statement confirming whether a formal investigation into the allegations is underway.
