The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded the contract to construct a campus for the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) in Maamigili, South Ari Atoll.

The contract was officially awarded during President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu's visit to the island on Monday.

The new Islamic University campus will feature an administrative office, a library, five classrooms, and a multi-purpose seminar hall. Additionally, the facility will include a dedicated staff accommodation block.

While the project is proceeding within its allocated budget, specific details regarding the project's commencement date and total cost have not yet been disclosed. The campus will be developed on a 22,000 square feet plot of land.

The agreement for the project was formally signed by IUM Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Zahir, representing the Islamic University of Maldives, and Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem, on behalf of the Road Development Corporation.

Speaking at a public meeting held in Maamigili on Monday evening, President Muizzu reiterated his administration's commitment to making essential services accessible in all rural areas. He cited ongoing initiatives, such as the installation of ATMs across all islands, as examples of this vision.
