Foreign Ministry staff, set to return after concluding studies next month, dies in Japan

A young Foreign Ministry staff studying in Japan has died just ahead of few days before she was scheduled to return to Maldives after completing her studies.

The staff has been identified as Lujain Thasneema, 29, B. Thulhaadhoo.

Sun has learned that she died shortly before she was scheduled to return to Maldives after concluding her studies, with tickets booked for her flight after graduation.

Foreign Ministry has not disclosed any information regarding her death. As such, the circumstances surrounding her death are unclear at the moment.

Former foreign minister Abdulla Shahid who held office during the last administration posted a condolence message on X following her death.

In this regard, Shahid said she was a talented and dedicated Foreign Service Officer who embodied the spirit of public service whose tireless work ethic and passion for her role were evident in everything she did.
