Pres. instructs to award student loans to all 806 applicants who were eligible

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states he instructed the relevant ministries to award loans to all applicants who met the requirements for the higher education loan program in the Maldives and overseas this year.

A total of 1,338 students applied for the higher education loan program at the expiration of the deadline to submit applications on April 30th. Out of the applicants, 806 students were deemed eligible. A list of all eligible applicants has been published on the Higher Education Ministry’s website.

President Muizzu, via a post on X on Tuesday evening, said he has instructed the relevant ministries have to award loans to all eligible students who applied for the higher education loan program this year.

An increase has been observed in applications for higher education loans, with an increase in applications for loans in specific fields. As such. Higher Education Ministry has advised students to prioritize fields that are most in-demand in the Maldives in terms of job opportunities when pursuing higher education.

According to data released by the Finance Ministry, student loan expenditures have declined this year compared to the previous year. As of July 10th, MVR 274 million has been spent on student loans, whereas MVR 308.6 million was spent during the same timeframe last year.
