The Family Court in the capital is set to perform marriage ceremonies for a staggering 59 couples on Sunday, according to the court.
The high number of marriage ceremonies is attributed to the date – 25/5/25 – a palindrome date which makes it popular for weddings.
With the high number of marriage ceremonies, the Family Court has made special arrangements to ensure a smooth process, placing tents and chairs outside the court building so couples and their loved ones can wait in the shade for their turn.
Out of the 59 marriages set to take place in Male’, 23 will be performed during working hours and the other 36 in non-working hours.
Palindrome dates a widely popular for weddings. Last year, 52 couples tied the knot in the capital on 24/4/24.
The Family Court was previously closed for in-court marriage ceremonies during weekends. But due to popular demand, the court changed this policy this year, allowing for in-court marriages throughout the week.
