Firefights on Monday put out a fire that broke out in the engine room of the State Electric Company (STELCO) headquarters in Male’.
According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the fire was reported to the Fire and Rescue Service at around 06:19 am.
The fire originated from a smoke pipe in one of the main engines, said the MNDF.
Firefighters managed to completely put out the fire at around 06:30 am.
The incident did not result in any injuries.
A spokesperson from STELCO told Sun that there were no reports of any major damage in the fire.
This incident will not result in any power disruptions, added the spokesperson.
The cause of the fire remains unclear at this point.
