Bodufinolhu designated as part of L. Gan

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday, has officially designated Bodufinolhu as part of L. Gan.

This change was implemented through amendments to Presidential Decree No. 05/2025, made under the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 07/2010), section 56-1, subsection (a), which grants the President the authority to designate areas for both city and island councils.

As such, the newly formed chat of Gan has now been codified and published in the government gazette.

Bodufinolhu had previously been leased for development as a tourism training resort. The island was leased to Premier Equity, a company owned by former Male’ Mayor Sarangu Adam.

The island was repossessed by the state during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration before the expiration of the lease, after the contractor failed to carry out physical works on the project.

The first tourism minister of the current administration Ibrahim Faisal has previously stated a high priority will be allocated for the development of Bodufinolhu for tourism purposes.
