Jumhoory Party (JP)'s leader Qasim Ibrahim.
Business magnate and politician Qasim Ibrahim has offered to sponsor the development of a bigger police station in ADh. Maamigili through the philanthropic arm of Villa Group – the Villa Foundation.
Qasim, the leader of Jumhoory Party (JP), send a letter to Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau on Wednesday asking him to accept the sponsorship offer.
Qasim is a native of Maamigili and the longtime parliamentary representative for the district.
In his letter, Qasim said that Maamigili is the biggest island in the region in terms of population and land size, and also attracts lots of visitors with its international airport and neighboring resorts.
He noted that Maamigili also has the highest crime rate among islands in the ADh. Atoll.
Qasim said that the need to have a regional standard police station in Maamigili is something that has been repeatedly discussed for years, and that the project was even added to the state budget over the last five years.
“But given that this project hasn’t been launched to date, I can understand how hard it is to provide police services in Maamigili,” he said.
“I inform you, Commissioner of Police, that if you so permit, I have decided to sponsor the planned project to develop a police station in Maamigili through the Villa Foundation.”
He asked CP Shujau to accept the sponsorship offer.
