Fenaka Corporation has prepared to send a new generator set to Addu City to resolve the frequent power disruptions affecting the linked islands of the city.

The company, on Sunday, said a 1.6-megawatt generator set has been acquired under an agreement executed with State Electric Company (STELCO), which has now been boarded onto a landing craft to be transported to Addu City.

Fenaka assured that the company was undertaking efforts to speedily resolve the frequent power disruptions faced in the linked islands of Addu City due to difficulties in generating an adequate amount of electricity.

Fenaka said that they have operationalized one generator that was broken after repair work while repair work on the second generator operationalized after repair works by the end of this week. The reparation of the third generator will commence next week after importing the necessary spare parts from abroad, the company added.

Fenaka also affirmed that they will carefully monitor the increased electricity usage expected during Ramadan, while also noting the growing demand for electricity in Addu City due to ongoing development projects.

The company assured it will continue to undertake all efforts necessary to fulfill its responsibility of providing interrupted electricity to the residents.

In this regard, Fenaka noted that they have commenced efforts to permanently resolve the frequent power disruptions in Addu City at the instructions of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with the target to complete physical works on the projects within one and a half years.

According to the latest census, Addu City’s population is at 25,062. While frequent power disruptions have prolonged at the city, Fenaka has attributed the issue to increased demand and damage to cables while carrying out projects such as road development.
