The second suspect arrested for involvement in attacking a man with an axe in Hulhumale’ earlier this week has also been ordered to jail pending the end of the trial.
The incident took place at around 11:35 pm on Sunday, when two men driving by on a motorcycle attacked a man with an axe as he was waiting outside the western end of the Rehendhi Turf Stadium on Bougainville Magu.
The two suspects - Saifulla Faisal, 19, Finifenmaage, B. Goidhoo, and Rusthum Ibrahim, 25, Heenamaage, GDh. Fiyoaree - were detained from the Hulhumale’ Highway while on the run.
During their original remand hearing on Monday, the court ordered for Saifulla to be jailed pending the end of the investigation and the outcome of the trial, while Rusthum was remanded in custody of police for three days.
In a statement on Wednesday, the police said that Rusthum was taken before the court for a review of his remand earlier in the day.
“The court ordered for him to jailed pending the end of the investigation and the trial,” said the police.
The victim sustained injuries in the attack, and was taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital. He was discharged the same night.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
