Ungoofaaru man fined for assaulting Dhuvaafaru man

A man from R. Ungoofaaru has been fined for assaulting another man from R. Dhuvaafaru during an altercation in the garbage area of Ungoofaaru.

The incident occurred on November 11 last year, when the Ungoofaaru man struck the Dhuvaafaru man on the back of the neck. Medical records confirmed the victim sustained injuries in the attack.

The prosecution filed charges in May this year, and the case concluded last week at the Ungoofaaru Magistrate Court. The accused denied the charges, but the court found him guilty based on evidence submitted by the prosecution.

Following the verdict, both the defendant and the victim requested leniency in sentencing.

On Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Rimah Mohamed ordered the defendant to pay a fine of MVR 14,400 within three months.
