Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended felicitations to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang on the occasion of the Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year.
In separate letters to the leaders on Wednesday, President Muizzu extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes from the government and the people of the Maldives to the leadership and citizens of China on the joyous occasion.
H also shared a message on his official X account to mark Spring Festival and Chinese New Year.
“May this year bring prosperity, health, and happiness to the people of China,” he said.
President Muizzu said that the Maldives cherishes its close and enduring friendship with China.
“Together, we have built a partnership based on mutual respect and shared aspirations. As we welcome the new year, I am confident that our strong ties will be transformed to bring greater benefits to both our nations,” he said.
In his letters, President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to the One-China Principle and emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
He also highlighted the significance of consolidating the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to ensure the continued flourishing of the close ties between the two countries.
President Muizzu extended best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of the President Xi and Premier Li, as well as the continued prosperity and progress of the people of China.
President Muizzu had made his first state visit to China in 2024, during which the two countries exchanged 20 agreements, including one to develop the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu – the Maldivian administration’s biggest housing project.
The Maldives and China has also implemented a Free Trade Agreement.
The Maldives and China established diplomatic relations on October 14, 1972.
