Eight homes have been flooded after heavy rain caused flooding in F. Nilandhoo again, the island’s council reported.
Speaking with Sun, an official from Nilandhoo Council said some houses have reported flood intrusions after heavy rain caused flooding. According to the official, it began to rain on the island at approximately 8:00am this morning.
As such, the official said Nilandhoo Council was undertaking efforts to assist residents of these households including providing sandbags, and draining the floods.
However, the Council noted that none of the households have reported any damage following flooding so far, thus, the situation is not that bad.
MNDF stated that its Central Area Command is currently active in Nilandhoo to assist in draining the floods.
Nilandhoo recorded significant damage from severe flooding caused by nonstop heavy rain around two weeks ago. Speaking with Sun back then, Nilandhoo Council member Sameera Ibrahim said 80 percent of households on the island reported flood intrusion in the flooding and the island’s sewerage system had failed causing junctions to overflow.
