Chinese FM pays courtesy call on President Muizzu

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The meeting took place at the President’s Office on Friday evening.

During the meeting, President Muizzu extended a warm welcome to Minister Wang and thanked the Minister for visiting the Maldives. He conveyed gratitude for the enduring friendship between the Maldives and China, and China’s significant contributions to the Maldives' development goals. He also reflected on his state visit to China last January, calling it a highly successful engagement that strengthened the bilateral ties between the two nations.

The President stressed the importance of fast-tracking key infrastructure projects outlined in the agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between the two countries. He emphasized the need to prioritize social housing and road development projects, which are among the most urgent requirements for the Maldivian people. Additionally, the President highlighted his administration's focus on economic diversification, particularly in agriculture and fisheries, and requested China's support in advancing these crucial sectors.

Responding to the remarks, Minister Wang expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for his dedication to strengthening bilateral ties, describing the President as a good friend and trustworthy partner of China. He praised President Muizzu's development vision for the Maldives and reiterated China's ongoing support for the country's sustainable development. Minister Wang assured that the Chinese Government would support the swift implementation of development projects in progress. He also acknowledged the Maldives' commitment to the One-China Principle and emphasized that the cooperation between the two countries exemplifies how nations, regardless of size, can collaborate successfully for mutual growth and prosperity.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their mutual commitment to advancing the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, established during President Muizzu's state visit to China, and to enhancing cooperation on multilateral platforms for a shared future.
