Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has signed an agreement to develop a dockyard in HA. Ihavandhoo.
The agreement was signed by MPL’s CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim and Ihavandhoo Council’s President Ahmed Sobah on Friday.
Sobah said that the MPL will be allocated a 100,000 square feet plot for 50 years to build the dockyard. He added that the council will not take land rent.
He added that the project will boost the island’s economy and create jobs.
Sobah added that the MPL will be conducting training programs in Ihavandhoo once the project is underway.
Practical works on the project is expected to begin in around six months.
The dockyard in Ihavandhoo is part of the larger bunkering project in the region.
