The Finance Ministry has extended the application deadline for a local consultancy firm to formulate a 20-year national development plan.
The formulation of a long-term national development plan is a pledge President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made during his 2023 presidential campaign.
The Finance Ministry had made the original request for interested local consultancy firms to submit Expression of Interest (EoI) on December 1. The deadline had been set to expire at 02:00 pm Monday.
But in an announcement on Monday morning, the Finance Ministry extended the deadline to 02:00 pm on January 7.
According to the Finance Ministry, the 20-year national development plan must cover plans for sustainable economic, social, environment and urban development in the Maldives. It must also include mechanisms for the effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the plan.
The public consultation process for the plan was inaugurated by President Muizzu in November.
The government said it aims to finalize the national development plan within one year, and to submit a national development bill to the Parliament to legally empower the plan.
