The Maldives and Tajikistan have signed an agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements, allowing Maldivians and Tajiks up to 30 days of visa-free travel.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan in New York, United States.
The agreement was signed by the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Hikmat Jonibek Ismoil.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the signing of the agreement formalizes the existing unilateral visa-free regimes of both countries.
The visa-free agreement with Tajikistan comes after the Maldives signed a similar one earlier this month with Azerbaijan for official and diplomatic passport holders.
According to information released by the Foreign Ministry in April 2023, the Maldives has visa exemption agreements with over 30 countries.
