While it has been one year to the People’s National Congress (PNC)-led government, the public upset with the current administration according to Ihavandhoo MP and the ruling party member Ahmed Naseer.
During the debate on the state budget for 2025 at Tuesday’s parliament sitting, Naseer said majority of the public were frustrated owing to lack of any progress in development projects.
According to Naseer, the public is not aware of the various efforts led by the current government, and added this administration must disseminate this information to the public via television and radio. The MP said that though the government has detailed its initiatives, the public remains uninformed so far.
“We must disseminate information through television and radio about our efforts. The public elected us with hopes and aspirations, and majority of them are currently upset. Most of the constituents are upset while the government has turned one year old,” Naseer said.
He further argued the need for clarifying about the various instances of misappropriation of public funds and corruption of the former government. While highlighting the state lacked any avenues of filing lawsuits to claim the monetary damages, it needs to also device a different plan to address to loss of valuable time in rectifying the former government’s errors.
“Esteemed speaker, we are need not file lawsuits to claim the monetary damages, but how are we supposed to recover the lost time? How can we recover five years’ worth of time lost in depleting the state coffers?” the MP said.
Naseer said the government must actively reach out to the citizens and assure them the administration was working towards realizing the public’s demands and aspirations.
