Would-be thief found inside transformer box in Hulhumale’ Phase II

A man was arrested from Hulhumale’ Phase II on Sunday after he was found inside an electrical transformer box near the Hiyaa towers.

The incident was reported to the police at around 05:30 am on Sunday.

According to the police, they received a report at around 05:30 am Sunday regarding an individual entering a transformer box outside H13 in an attempt to steal from it.

The police identified the suspect as Ahmed Risfan, 32, Fehiasseyri, N. Maalhendhoo.

He was arrested by the police.

A video of the arrest has gone viral on social media.

It shows four police officers, accompanied by two employees of the State Electric Company (STELCO), approach the transformer box.

One of the employees opens the door to the transformer box to find a man inside, who is dragged outside and handcuffed by the police.

Back in March, a young man was electrocuted to death while attempting to steal from a transformer box near the Hiyaa towers.

The attempted theft on Sunday is under investigation by the police.
