PNC membership has surpassed 65,000, says Falah

Membership at the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has surpassed 65,000, says Ibrahim Falah, the party’s parliamentary group leader.

Speaking to reporters during a membership drive held in Male’ on Saturday, Falah said the party’s leader, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu hopes to see the party’s membership rise to 75,000.

He said that efforts are underway to boost membership to 75,000 by the end of November.

Falah said that the party has now boosted its membership to over 65,000.

“…Through the efforts of our parliamentary group and all our relevant teams over the last two months, we have been able to increase membership to over 65,000 as of today,” he said.

He expressed confidence the party will be able to boost membership to 75,000 by the end of November.

Saturday’s membership drive seeks to boost numbers from seven districts of Male’. Falah said that similar efforts are underway in Addu and several other regions across the country.

Parliamentarians and other top party and government officials are involved in the membership drive in Male’.

Elections Commission (EC) records show that PNC had 28,983 members as of September 18, making it the third largest political party in the Maldives. The top spot is taken by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which has 50,851 members.

The PNC aims boost membership to 75,000 and overtake the MDP as the largest political party in the Maldives.
