Parliament approves four individuals for Tax Appeal Tribunal membership

Parliament, on Thursday, has approved four individuals for vacant membership posts at the Tax Appeal Tribunal.

The vacancies at the Tax Appeal Tribunal arise from the dismissal of all but one member by the President on August 26th.

A total of 13 individuals applied for the posts during the opportunity announced by the President’s Office. The Parliament, at Thursday’s sitting, voted on granting approval for the appointment of four members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal. 

In this regard, the four individuals who received the Parliament’s approval are:

  • Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, H. Horse Side
  • Ibrahim Shareef, G. Alsha
  • Hussan Zuhir Mohamed, G. Maavarulu
  • Shifza Abdul Gayyoom, Gasdhoshuge, GA. Nilandhoo

All four of them received approval with the unanimous votes of 68 MPs in attendance.

Four members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal were dismissed over severe allegations in line with the decision made by the Parliament which greenlighted their removal after reviewing the allegations.

The four members who were dismissed were:

  • Mohamed Munawar Ali, President
  • Hussain Zaidhan Jaleel, Vice President
  • Khadheeja Naeem, Member
  • Ahmed Ashraf, Member

All of these members were appointed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.

Ali Sajid is the only member to retain their post.
