Maldives Police Service has issued an apology for the private information that was shared during a press conference held on Sunday regarding the death of Wifag Ibrahim Adnan who fell to her death from a building in Male’ City.
Wifag died on August 10th after falling from the 10th floor of Hasova Building in Maafannu district where she resided.
In a statement on Monday night, Police said detailed information regarding their investigation of the case was disclosed as a program containing misinformation regarding Wifag’s family was aired publicly.
However, they noted that private information was disclosed with the knowledge of Wifag’s family including her mother and father. Nevertheless, the Police expressed their belief that some sensitive information was not conveyed in the most ideal manner and henceforth, apologized for this.
At Sunday’s press conference, Police revealed that Wifag’s body showed no sign of sexual abuse.
It was detailed that Wifag fell from the 10th floor of her residence on top of a pickup parked directly below at 17:37pm on August 10th. Within 30 seconds of the fall, the pickup began its journey to the hospital. She fell from 89 feet above and had remained motionless since the fall.
As the lead investigator In the case, Chief Superintendent of Police, Head of Major Crime Investigation Hassan Shifau said despite allegations of sexual abuse in the case, Wifag’s body showed no corresponding evidence during the tests conducted by the Police.
Channel 13 had broadcast a documentary investigating Wifag’s death in which huge allegations of sexual abuse were made.
The broadcaster is under investigation by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission for airing the documentary.
