Cannabis, a type of drug, has been seized from a shipment imported to the Maldives labeled as ‘Vape Oil’.

The seizure was announced by Home Minister Ihusan Ali via a post on X. As per the Minister, the items were seized by Maldives Customs Service.

He described this as one of the main reasons behind President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision earlier today to ban vape.

The Minister shared a picture of the shipment in his post which shows multiple cardboard boxes filled with what looks like bottles containing flavor for vaping devices. Henceforth, it is likely cannabis was concealed in the bottles to be smuggled.

President Muizzu announced his decision to ban vaping in the Maldives via a post on X.

The President, in the post, said he has instructed to ban the import of vaping devices and parts of such devices starting from November 15th and instructed all relevant authorities to undertake all efforts necessary to ban the use, possession, production, sale, advertisement and free distribution of vapes starting from December 15th.

The decision was met with praise from many people.
