The remand of the young Nepali woman arrested from Male’ alongside several Maldivian men on suspicion of drug peddling has been extended again.
21-year-old Nisha Raai was arrested last Saturday after the Police discovered enough drugs in her apartment to meet the threshold for trafficking.
In addition to the drugs, the police also found out in the open in her room drug paraphernalia – specifically equipment used to weigh and pack drugs.
She also tested positive for cannabis.
The Court first remanded her in custody for one day, then for an additional day after that period ended, and again for another day following the expiration of the second period. On the third occasion, she was remanded in custody for five days.
On Thursday, her remand was extended by an additional 10 days.
According to the remand order, the drugs in her apartment were kept in plain sight. The Police believe that the drugs, combined with drug paraphernalia suggests her involvement in peddling drugs.
Three Maldivian men were arrested in connection with the case: Hassan Anas, 22, Moosa Shameem 22, and Hussain Sharuvan 25.
The Court has also extended the remanded of all three men.
