Six foreigners involved in widescale prostitution detained

Maldives Immigration has detailed six foreigners involved in widescale prostitution in the Maldives.

Immigration said the authority, in collaboration with Maldives Police Service, conducted special inspections in August and September to identify and detain foreigners involved in prostitution in the Maldives.

They detailed that five women and a man were detained during these inspections.

Although their nationalities have not been disclosed, as per Immigration, the women are aged 28, 34, 36, 37 and 39 while the man is 31.

Three of them have been permanently deported from the Maldives following the conclusion of the investigation into their cases, said Immigration, adding efforts were underway to deport the remaining individuals.

Immigration is undertaking significant efforts to resolve the issue the longstanding issue of illegal immigration in the Maldives. Notably, many such individuals are implicit in criminal offenses including operating illegal businesses.
