President Muizzu: China a consistent partner in Maldives’ development journey

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has lauded China for being for consistently being a steadfast partner in the development journey of Maldives.

He made the remark while speaking at the reception held in Male’ to commemorate the 75th National Day of China.

During his remarks, the President extended greetings on the occassion to the leadership and citizens of China while emphasizing their unwavering spirit, endurance, and perseverance. He emphasized that China's position as a powerful force in the global economy was achieved through dedication and hard work.

In this regard, he detailed that China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, creating unprecedented prosperity and becoming the world’s second-largest economy through reforms initiated under visionary leadership/

“For us in the Maldives, China’s transformation is a powerful testament to the possibilities that emerge when nations dare to dream big and act decisively,” he added.

Speaking further, the Maldivian head of state described China as a nation that has been a steadfast partner in the development journey of the Maldives.

“Whether through numerous housing projects and infrastructure projects that have transformed our archipelago or through assistance during challenging times, China has stood by our side,” he remarked while detailing some of the assistance rendered over the years.

In this trajectory, he underscored the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge as a shining symbol of the enduring partnership between the two nations and a reminder of the possibilities that arise when two nations come together with a shared vision for the future. He also highlighted the critical medical and relief assistance rendered in one the darkest moments in Maldivian history; the great tsunami of 2004.

President Muizzu said the strong relationship between the Maldives was built upon trust, mutual respect, and a commitment to principles of sovereignty, non-interference, peace, and sustainable development.

He expressed the vision for even greater cooperation in various fields including trade, tourism, agriculture, fisheries, renewable energy, cultural exchange, housing, climate change and infrastructure development.

The National Day of China commemorates the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
