Ibrahim Jauharee, a notable activist and photojournalist, was discovered dead and drifting outside of Male' City "Usfasgandu" on Monday afternoon, was last seen fishing near the same area.
The prominent activist had been an avid leisure fisherman.
Jauharee's body was discovered around 17:06 hrs on Monday afternoon, while the Maldives Police Service later confirmed he had already passed before he was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A local near 'Usfasgandu' while speaking with 'Sun' said they had seen Jauharee fishing earlier. The individual had pointed out to a bucket and a red bag, which had been likely used by Jauharee to catch fish.
'Sun' reporters on site had witnessed police officers collecting and taking away a slipper found near the body was discovered along with some other items.
The photojournalist has been long-time member of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who had covered multiple protests and gatherings the party carried out over the years.
In support of former President Mohamed Nasheed, Jauharee exited MDP to join The Democrats.
During his time in political activism, Jauharee had also spent time in prison as well.
For a living, Jauharee had been an appliance repairsman.
Police has already launched an investigation into the death of the activist.
