Maldives receives Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award

Maldives has received the Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award at the 2024 Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA).

The 14th Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) award gala was held on Tuesday evening at Villa Nautica, Maldives.

Maldives received the Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award in the country category. The award was accepted on behalf of the Maldives by Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq.

Meanwhile, former Maldivian president Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Waheed has received the Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award.

In a post on X, Waheed said he was honored to receive the award, which is given to current and former heads of state and industry leaders.

He said that he was awarded in recognition of his role in promoting Islamic finance in Maldives, including setting up the Maldives Islamic Bank, the Hajj Corporation, Islamic bonds and more.

Previous recipients include leaders of Indonesia, Senegal, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, Malaysia.

GIFA was founded by Edbiz Corporation in 2011 as part of its advocacy for Islamic banking and finance. It celebrates the achievements of individuals, institutions and governments in promoting and advocating Islamic banking and finance, and ensuring that it remains committed to social responsibility.
