Maldives and Oman discuss strengthening oil trade and economic cooperation

Finance Minister Moosa Zameer has held official talks with Oman’s Finance Minister Sultan bin Salim Al-Habsi to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in oil trade, energy, and broader economic sectors.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting took place during Minister Zameer’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday. The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and expanding the longstanding economic relationship between the Maldives and Oman, Maldives’ largest trading partner, primarily due to fuel imports.

Discussions focused on enhancing trade flows and capitalizing on synergies in the maritime and fisheries sectors. This includes opportunities in maritime transport services, value chains, and related commercial activities.

The ministers also explored potential collaboration on energy projects in the Maldives, with an emphasis on supporting national development priorities.

The Ministry of Finance stated that it will continue to engage with Oman to advance shared economic goals and strengthen trade, investment, and project-based cooperation.
