Police seize 126 grams of drugs on boat to Vilingili; two arrested

The police have arrested two people suspected of attempting to smuggle drugs into GA. Vilingili, one of them a foreign national.

The police announced the arrests in a press statement on Sunday.

The suspects were identified as:

  • Ali Mumthaz, 37, Kenereege, L. Fonadhoo
  • Irshad Mia, 29, Bangladesh

According to the police, the two were arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Vilingili Police Station and Police Intelligence on September 4, based on information received by Police Intelligence regarding an attempt to smuggle drugs into Vilingili.

The police stopped the boat they were travelling on and took it to the Kooddoo harbor. The police searched the boat and found drugs inside.

The preliminary weight of the drugs is 126 grams, said the police.

The agency did not specify the type of drugs found.

The Vilingili Magistrate Court remanded the two suspects into the custody of the police for 15 days.

The case is under investigation by the Vilingili Police Station.
